French University Switches to Sakai

Paris (F), September 2007 - The Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris (UPMC), one of the largest universities teaching science and medicine in France, recently announced the deployment of the Sakai Collaboration and Learning Environment for Education as its official eLearning platform. The platform has been open for students since 17 September.

The University had been using WebCT as its learning system, but after a one-year test of Sakai, the decision was made to switch. The move is in line with its use of the French version of UPortal, called ESUP. UPortal is and open technology architecture under development by numerous international institutions of higher-education.

The Université Pierre et Marie Curie will contribute to the Sakai community this year by continuing the translation of the platform into French, a task started by colleagues from Quebec, Canada. The University hopes to convince other French universities to switch to Sakai.
