Programme to boost innovation in vocational training

Brussels, August 2005 – The European Commission has selected 295 projects from 31 countries to receive grants under the Leonardo da Vinci programme. The programme promotes trans-national cooperation to foster innovation in and improve the quality of European vocational education and training. A total of 86 million euros has been awarded to co-finance the selected projects. [more...]



The web as a new educational way and a window to the world

Moscow, August 2005 – Russia is currently making strong efforts to modernize its educational system and to become a full member of the international information society. Internet activities in Russia started in the early 1990s, mostly in civilian sectors like science, culture, and business with a limited number of users. Other sectors, especially the national education system, still suffer from an inadequate infrastructure and unsatisfactory access to the Internet. Only the university sector is an exception: supported by the Soros project, more than thirty Russian universities have been equipped with the necessary information technology and have free access to the Internet. 2nd Distance Training Convention "Distance Training moves on ..."

The 2nd Distance Training Convention of the German Armed Forces focuses on pedagogic-didactic concepts, specifically eLearning and distance training, as well as innovative training scenarios and the economic relevance of media-based education. The dates are September 20th to 22nd, 2005 at the Helmut-Schmidt-Universität / Bundeswehr University Hamburg. Obstacles and opportunities in distance education

Umeå, August 2005 – A Swedish study at the Umeå University sought to investigate the main obstacles and opportunities that influence the adult distance learner’s studying and learning. Over thirteen weeks about 33 adult distance learners documented their experiences in a full-time introduction course in a teacher education program at college level. The six men and 27 women had an average age of 36 years, and two-thirds of them had children living at home. Also two-thirds combined studying and working; some of them worked full time. [more...]
