a past column, one of my focus points these days is Fingertip Knowledge and
learning in a "flatter" world. We can think about Fingertip Knowledge in
its broadest sense as the use of public search engines like Google, Yahoo
and Microsoft that allow individuals to type ("walk") their way to
knowledge, information, and data. In this column, I would specifically
like to address the topics of lowered memorization, "federated searches",

recommendation of the European Parliament and of the Council on the
establishment of the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong
learning (EQF). The EQF will provide a common language to describe
