EDEN Conference Call

Join the Dialogue with Open Learning Generations

Budapest (HU), December 2011 - At the dawn of the "The European Year of Active Ageing and the Solidarity Between Generations", the European Distance and eLearning Network - EDEN - has launched its call for contributions for the 2012 EDEN Annual Conference., to be held in Porto, Portugal, 06-09 June 2012.

The event will address the key questions of learning methodology and technology, focusing on the "open learning generations" in the contexts of socially significant target groups: junior and senior eLearners.

There are opportunities to submit and present papers, organise workshops, and create posters and demonstrations. There is also a special strand for virtual presentations that will be accessible online in a structured virtual session site, with a Twitter forum attached to each presentation. It is possible to participate in the 2012 Conference both -œlive- in Porto, Portugal, and online.

In a time of great challenges for Europe, all generations are called to collaborate and to learn, produce, share, and preserve knowledge. In the digital knowledge society, technology and social media should not divide; rather they should foster cohesion amongst generations. New generation of learners who have grown up with the Internet, the members of -œGeneration Y- or the -œNet Generation-, are technology-immersed learners who adapt to technological developments easily.

At the same time, with Europe's aging population, promoting older people's access to education and to information and communication technologies remains a key issue. We will explore their learning cultures and technology-use patterns, and also discuss new approaches in pedagogy and andragogy that respond to them.

The 2012 EDEN Annual Conference is being organized in co-operation with the University of Porto and will convene in the Alfândega do Porto Congress Center, in downtown Porto, by the Douro River.

The submission deadline for all proposals is 10 February 2012.
