Chelsea FC launch Footee for Young Fans
London (UK), January 2012 - Chelsea FC has announced the launch of Chelsea Footee, an online educational football-themed entertainment zone for children that links to the National Curriculum. It has been developed in partnership with UK eLearning specialist MotivatEd.
Footee is a club-themed virtual world packed full of fun educational games and quests. Achievements are rewarded by virtual currency, special items, and professional player Super Skills that can be used to enhance each user's playable dream team.
Designed for seven-to-fourteen-year-old fans, Footee is supported by the English FA and features the full Chelsea FC squad, along with a host of other major UK clubs. Its free-to-access action games support learning in mathematics, language, science, geography, and history. They also help to develop skills in cross-curricular competences such as health, nutrition, citizenship, teamwork, and digital literacy.
Research by Loughborough University has shown that, in addition to boosting academic skills, Footee can be used by teachers to increase the general levels of physical activity in school children through its motivational content and virtual reward schemes.
Phil Clegg, Managing Director of MotivatEd, says, "Advances in technology mean that many children spend time on the internet playing games. Our aim is to encourage constructive use of this recreational time to boost educational growth, improve nutritional knowledge, and motivate overall increases in physical activity. We are thrilled to be working closely with Chelsea FC, a world-leading club that has an impressive heritage in terms of engaging with its passionate young fan base and local community."
