Saved by the Bell
Brussels (BE), September 2013 - Pupils are sometimes relieved to hear the school bell ring - as are teachers, from time to time. They are all familiar with the sensation of being -œsaved by the bell.- For millions of children and youths, however, the bell will not ring today, even if it is their deepest wish.
In 2000, the leaders from 191 countries vowed to make primary education accessible for all by 2015. Their intentions were articulated in the eight Millennium Development Goals. More than ten years have passed, and while there has been progress, it does not look like this goal will be achieved.
Studio Globo is an NGO that wants to contribute to intercultural and global education for children and youths and to assist teachers and schools in achieving this. Studio Globo believes that education can be a driving force for development.
Because of the firm belief that education is necessary to realise change, we want to celebrate the importance of good teachers and good education worldwide. Therefore, Studio Globo calls on all schools to participate in the symbolic action Saved by the Bell, a massive ringing of school bells on 04 October 2013. The next day, 05 October, has been declared World Teachers’ Day by UNESCO.
When joining, your school will demonstrate its respect and appreciation for teachers’ efforts worldwide. At the same time, your school will demonstrate its support for all children’s right to good education.
