Designing Educational Videos like the Pros
Karlsruhe (GER), January 2014 - Prof. Roland Riempp has devoted about two decades of his life to the integration of media into the education process. Since the year 2000, he has been teaching "Media Integration" at Offenburg's University of Applied Sciences. He has also published several books on the subject and has worked as a multimedia producer and consultant. At LEARNTEC 2014, Prof. Riempp will offer a hands-on workshop entitled "Designing Educational Videos like the Pros.
At the Offenburg University of Applied Sciences’ Faculty of Media and Information Technology, Prof. Riempp teaches and does research on a variety of current media-related topics relevant to education. These include eLearning, design and production of interactive media, usability, media technology, as well as the psychological aspects of interactive multimedia applications. He is also Director of the Media Integration Lab.
Prof. Riempp views videos as an element of larger units. He is convinced that "Videos play a partial role in the overall concept of a learning unit," which to him means that both the technology and the pedagogic-didactic design are crucial. For example, he finds that recording lectures is a "concept that makes little sense" and recommends instructional videos that are only one to two minutes in length. As an expert he knows that "moving images captivate the attention," and, of course, this includes animations and simulations. "However, planning their use should always be done in accordance with the context."
In his workshop, Prof. Riempp will formulate and demonstrate sample tasks, about which participants are cordially invited to ask questions and present their observations.
The workshop "Designing Educational Videos like the Pros" will take place at the LEARNTEC Congress on 05 February 2014 from 3 - 6 pm in the Conference Exhibition Center.
