Georgia Cyber Academy Expanded Learning Opportunities
Atlanta, GA (USA), August 2014 - Georgia Cyber Academy (GCA), a full-time, tuition-free online public school for students in Georgia, will begin their 2014-2015 school year as the program marks its eighth year of operation in the State. GCA uses the award-winning K¹² curriculum to offer students in grades K-12 an exceptional learning experience. GCA offers an individualized learning approach and provides students with the tools they need to succeed both in school and beyond.
Students who enroll at GCA follow an academic program that includes engaging web-based lessons along with instructional materials – books, videos, CDs, and other hands-on tools and resources – which are shipped directly to each student's home. GCA teachers provide instruction, guidance, and support and regularly interact with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone, and face-to-face meetings. Teachers also organize numerous field trips and school activities where students have the opportunity to participate in events that blend academics and socialization.
GCA provides courses in English/language arts, math, science, history, music, art, and world languages for students in grades K-8, while the high-school program offers students a catalog of more than 150 core, elective, AP, and world-language courses. Students can also choose to participate in dozens of extracurricular activities that cover a wide variety of interests, including the school's National Honor Society, Beta Club, Lego Club, Photography, flamenco dance, and more.
Accredited by AdvancED, the largest school-accrediting agency in the United States, GCA offers high-school students the added free benefit of earning college credits at more than thirty colleges and universities across Georgia through its dual-enrollment program. Online learning is one of the fastest-growing areas in education, and over the past decade online schools have offered students expanded course options, increased education opportunities, and customized learning programs, regardless of geographic or socioeconomic circumstance. Evidence of this cultural acceptance can be found in GCA's most recent graduating high-school class, the first graduating class for the school, whose students amassed a total of over a million dollars in college scholarship offers.
"We feel there is no 'one-size-fits-all' mentality when it comes to your child's education, and the growth of Georgia Cyber Academy over the past seven years is evidence that Georgia families appreciate the ability to select a personalized public-school option most suited to their needs," said Matt Arkin, Head of School at GCA. "Traditional schools work well for some, but we've found that many students learn at different speeds and excel in different environments. GCA's individualized program gives students the benefit of a customized educational experience tailored to their individual learning style."
