Intel and Obeikan to team up
Santa Clara, October 2005 - Saudi-based Obeikan Research and Development (ORD) will use Intel's School Learning Software "Skool" to develop an eLearning portal supporting the school curriculum in Saudi Arabia.
"Skoool" is an Intel-driven e-learning initiative focused on the math and science curriculum for secondary school children. It includes a wide range of interactive educational resources that aims to complement students' schoolwork and home study.
ORD, which is specialized in educational development and research and part of the Obeiken Investment Group (OIG), will translate and localize the content. The Arab News, a daily English-language Saudi newspaper reports that the software will shortly be ready to download free of charge.
"At Obeikan we strongly believe that technology in education is a key success factor for the future development of our region. By adapting our interactive learning and supplementary material to the Arabic language, we hope to help increase technology literacy and academic achievement in the Kingdom", said Abdallah Obeikan, OIG's CEO. He added: "Obeikan has recently signed a contract with Education Ministries in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain to develop Math and Science for grades 1-12, and eLearning constitutes an important element in this project."
