eLearning for Kids Partners With To Be Worldwide

Ardmore, OK (US), April 2007 - ELearning for Kids (EFK), a global non-profit foundation dedicated to providing free online learning for children 5-12, recently announced its partnership with To Be Worldwide (TBWW), a foundation that helps build educational facilities in developing countries. TBWW will implement a project at the pilot centre in Takoradi, Ghana that is available to more than 2000 children.

The facilities TBWW has helped build so far complement the existing school structure and offer a library, a computer Centre, and an activities program to stimulate the development of children's creative and technological skill so that later they can realize their full potential and can build their own communities.

TBWW operates offices in the Netherlands and in Ghana; their pilot centre in Takoradi, Ghana serves more than 2000 children from local schools. During school hours, children visit the facility with their class, where they follow a basic computer skills or reading development course.

After school, children use the library or sign up for after-school activities such as computer training, creative reading, or arts & crafts. The facilities aim to become self-supporting and are accessible after hours to the local community.

"We are very pleased to enter into a partnership with EFK, as this will enable us to provide the necessary content for quality education at the Takoradi Centre", said Nellie Kirschner-Timmer, founder of the organization. "We will select a group of children and a tutor who will then select courses for our centre and create a plan for its implementation and the training of local staff."

Nick van Dam, Ph.D., founder and chairman of eLearning for Kids and Chief Learning Officer for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, was also extremely pleased about the partnership and the possibilities for mutually supporting the goals of both organizations.

"In addition, we are looking forward to having the Takoradi Centre be a test ground for EFK's courseware in developing countries. We will be receiving feedback from the children and recommendations from teachers and tutors via the structured questionnaires and the focus groups that we are planning together", said Nick.

All EFK courseware is available for free and unlimited use to schools, parents, and community centers and goes through a thorough quality review by QA experts, parents, children and teachers prior to release.
