Virtual Guide

Interactive Romania Launched

Bucharest (RO), June 2007 - (by Elena Lita) Shortly before the start of the Romanian National Testing Session, INTUITEXT, the eContent Solutions Division of the Romanian company SOFTWIN, has launched Geografika - Interactive Romania, the first virtual Guide of Romania and the easiest way to discover the country for school children and everyone else. Sorin Guleac, INTUITEXT's Educational Commercial Manager, was kind enough to speak to us about their new product.

Your firm has already introduced its Interactive Geography Lessons; why did you launch Geografika?

Sorin Guleac: The INTUITEXT Interactive Geography Lessons are focused on describing school topics that are very hard to study by using classical teaching means. Making use of 3D animations, realistic simulations, and rich multimedia content, the Geography Lessons interactively illustrate over a hundred complex phenomena, such as the solar eclipse, the forming of the mountains, tsunamis, and the greenhouse effect.

Geografika - Interactive Romania is a slightly different product. It is a virtual guide of Romania - the first one on the market - and our reply to hundreds of requests from pupils and teachers. Geografika is the simplest way for anyone to discover the country.

What are the main functionalities of Geografika?

Sorin Guleac: Geografika has four main modules.

The first one contains over forty maps of Romania, theoretical support, and several features that enhance the learning experience.

The second module has lots of tests based on the maps. The computer verifies the answers and points to the correct ones.

Using the third module, students can explore "the real Romania", the one behind the maps and charts: hundreds of legends, detailed descriptions of natural and man-made monuments, and beautiful photos.

Finally, the last module is where the fun part begins. The challenging, time-based puzzles differentiate beginners from Geografika champions. Furthermore, kids can gain points and in two types of educational games where talent alone isn't enough to win the great prize.

What's so special about the maps?

Sorin Guleac: Each map is drawn on a different layer. By selecting to view several layers at once, the pupils can make logical connections and understand how things are related one to another, for instance temperature with altitude and vegetation, industry with natural resources, and so on.

Also with Geografika, kids can access the "Compare" function and study two geographical regions side by side, and thus they can understand the differences and similarities between the geographical elements. They can zoom from a general map view to a very detailed one, and they can use the integrated search engine to locate any element by name quickly.

From now on, every teacher who wants to help students give up memorizing Romanian geography by heart can do it with Geografika.

What can you say about the testing engine?

Sorin Guleac: It is well known that getting an A in the Romanian national testing session it is a very difficult task! We at INTUITEXT had that goal in mind when we created Geografika. And taking this into account, we included a testing engine in the educational software to help students get great marks in exams with minimal effort. With just one click, they can have the Geografika testing engine validate the answers and indicate the correct one.

But having excellent grades on an exam is not everyone's aim. Therefore the puzzles and quests complete the testing area, allowing users to validate their knowledge, have fun and, of course, be recognized after gaining a top position in the online ranking.
