European Conference of Distance Teaching Universities
Heerlen (NL)/Lisbon (P), July 2007 - "Virtual Erasmus and a new generation of Open Educational Resources for a European and global outreach" is the theme under which the twentieth Anniversary Conference of the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU) is organized. Hosted by the Universidade Aberta, Lisbon, Portugal, and organised under the Portuguese EU Presidency 2007, the event takes place from 8-9 November 2007.
The EADTU Conference is focussing on the internationalisation of online university courses and related services. Trends and best practice will be exchanged, in particular with a view toward pedagogical, technological, and organisational issues, as well as on institutional strategies. Attention will be paid to off-campus target groups, which are not reached by the mainstream of European university education.
EADTU and ten member institutions prepare Multilingual Open Resources for Independent Learning (MORIL). Quality assurance and quality benchmarking are needed to monitor these developments. New university business models are being developed to anticipate these trends and to exploit the opportunities that are being created. The Conference will focus on these main subjects. It addresses universities' missions in international cooperation, student support in obtaining international educational experiences online, and staff support in realising this.
The main subjects of the conference are:
- International courses online in practice.
- Tutoring and services online.
- Open Educational Resources.
- Business models for Lifelong Open and Flexible Learning.
- Quality assurance for international online courses.
