Internet of Things - Internet of the Future
Nice (F), August 2008 - In the light of the development of first usages related to the mobile Internet, the next step in the development of these communication technologies will correspond to the creation of an "Internet of Things" that will generate new links going beyond the "Internet of computers". These topics and more will be discussed at the French European Union Presidency Conference on "Internet of Things - Internet of the Future", being held in Nice from 6 to 7 October 2008.
Thanks to the joint use of mobile Internet technologies and RFID technologies, network services will accompany citizens and enterprises in all of their activities: geo-localisation and proximity services, security and traceability related to consumer goods, the fight against fraud, the management of ecological risks, etc.
The Conference will foster the creation of the technological, economic, and political bases necessary for the development of a European market for mobile services as well as for services related to the use of the Internet of Things. Thanks to one of the most important unified mobile communications markets and a scientific and cultural heritage that is unique in the world, Europe has some vital assets to become one of the key regions of the Internet of tomorrow.
The event will concentrate on two areas: factors related to the development of the mobile Internet and the industrial and technological perspectives necessary for the development of the Internet of Things in Europe. Thus, the conference's objective is to stimulate R&D activities and facilitate the creation of European initiatives in the area of value-added services on the Internet.
Finally, the Conference will also discuss questions related to the governance of the Internet of the Future as well as to data protection and privacy in order to build up the trust necessary to develop these innovations in Europe.
