Executives as Part of the Learning Process
Karlsruhe (GER), January 2014 --Workplace training can only succeed when management accepts it as essential", is the position of Heinz-Josef Botthof, Business Development Manager at Plaut Business Consulting. From his experience, Botthof knows that the supportive leadership style so widely touted today is far more often mere wishful thinking in light of the assertive alpha-types who populate the executive suites. The empowerment of staff could provide a solution.
"Human-resource development is a managerial function, and effective management today primarily means nurturing and empowering employees," explains Botthof. In an era in which the tempo and complexity of our work continues to accelerate in the face of volatile markets, the ability of employees to measure up to their tasks is a sine qua non of corporate success. "Neither 'managing by the numbers' nor a purely technical-disciplinary leadership style can bring this about because systematic training is necessary to obviate the staff being overwhelmed. Making sure employees are not overloaded is an organizational challenge. Qualifying them to be able to master their tasks is definitely a key essential", explains Botthof.
Hence, a core task of modern management is the delegation of tasks - for which the appropriate skills set has been created - and subsequently monitoring the transfer of the acquired knowledge and skills. Fostering this transfer takes time and regular discussions, as well as the setting of targets that are constantly clear. "The goal is precise but not necessarily highly qualified employees," explains Botthof.
Heinz-Josef Botthof will deliver his talk on "The Role of Management in the Knowledge- Transfer Process" on 05 February 2014 at 11 o’clock as part of the LEARNTEC Congress in the Conference Exhibition Center.
