HAAD Develops New Professional Exams with Pearson VUE

London (UK), March 2010 - The Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD) has signed a contract with computer-based testing and assessment company Pearson VUE for item development for its Pharmacy and Nursing Licensure programmes. The new agreement follows HAAD's awarding a contract to Pearson VUE in mid-2009 for transitioning HAAD's licensure examination programme to computer-based delivery.

HAAD is the body responsible for licensing, quality control, and regulation of all healthcare facilities and professional practitioners in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Pearson VUE was selected by HAAD for the item development project following a public tender as a result of its successful implementation of computer-based testing.

Suzana Lopes, VP Sales and Marketing EMEA, Pearson VUE explains the scope of the new contract, saying, "The new project with HAAD is in the area of item development. This means the creation of questions or tasks to be assessed, which is a very complex science.

In order to ensure that every item is an accurate and worthwhile measurement of the test-taker's knowledge or ability, it must be created through a partnership of subject matter and assessment expertise to ensure that the exam questions are valid, reliable and current. Meeting these standards is of paramount importance to providing a fair and accurate assessment of test-taker competence."

Dr Omniyat Mohammed Al-Hajeri, manager of Health Professionals Licensing and Health Regulation at HAAD, adds, "We selected Pearson VUE as our partner to help us develop examination questions for our Nursing and Pharmacy examinations because of the company's strong content development and psychometric expertise. We are also confident of Pearson VUE's reputation as a full-service testing company that can provide customised solutions for end-to-end testing processes from item creation to data management."
