Blended Learning in School Education

Brussels (BE), August 2020 - A document on blended learning in school education written by the European Commission in consultation with representatives of ministries of education was published in July. It explores the pedagogical opportunities and challenges of a blended learning model and highlights key considerations that policymakers and schools may reflect on when planning to combine in-school and distance learning in their particular contexts.

These key considerations come under eight areas:

  • school leadership
  • legislation to support decision making
  • the management of in-school and distance learning environments for all learners
  • the teacher's role, competences, and working conditions
  • learner assessment
  • the well-being of staff and pupils
  • collaboration and school community
  • quality assurance
