State Recognition to German University of Digital Science

Prof. Dr. Christoph MeinelProf. Dr. Mike FriedrichsenPotsdam (GER), March 2025 - The German University of Digital Science has officially received state recognition from the Ministry of Science, Research and Culture of the State of Brandenburg. In a festive ceremony, Minister of Science Dr. Manja Schüle presented the official certificate to the presidents of the university, Prof. Dr. Christoph Meinel and Prof. Dr. Mike Friedrichsen.

The German UDS is thus the first state-recognized university in Europe to offer a full-fledged German university degree exclusively digitally. With its innovative concept of fully digital teaching, the university is aimed at students worldwide and enables academic education regardless of location.

Minister of Science Dr. Manja Schüle emphasized the importance of this milestone: "With the German University of Digital Science, Prof. Christoph Meinel, who successfully led the Hasso Plattner Institute for many years, and his partner Prof. Mike Friedrichsen are enriching Brandenburg's scientific landscape with a new offer. The university aims to be the first fully digitized university in Germany. In doing so, it is pursuing a concept that is unique in this form in Germany so far.

"We are very grateful to Minister Schüle and the state of Brandenburg for their support and trust in our innovative educational concept. The state recognition confirms that our model of scientific excellence and technological innovation sets new standards for digital teaching," says Prof. Dr. Christoph Meinel.

"Minister Schüle's visit and the presentation of state recognition mark a turning point in the history of our institution. We are pleased that Brandenburg recognizes the importance of digital education and supports us in creating access to first-class education for all, regardless of geographical or financial hurdles," added Prof. Dr. Mike Friedrichsen.

German UDS offers English-language MBA and Master's programs in areas such as Digital Transformation, Applied AI, Cybersecurity, and Digital Leadership. With tuition fees of €7,500 per year and a scholarship program, the university wants to give students from the Global South in particular access to a German university degree.

The first programmes of the now state-recognised German UDS will start in April 2025, and interested parties can still apply for the upcoming courses until 21 March 2025.
