EDI Training

Newcastle University partners with Ciphr eLearning

Reading (UK), March 2025 - Newcastle University made EDI training mandatory to foster inclusivity beyond compliance, embedding it as a core institutional value.

Newcastle University promotes an inclusive community where all colleagues and students feel valued and empowered. It recognises the importance of equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) beyond compliance, and therefore made EDI training mandatory for all staff. The initiative supports institutional policies, aligns with the EDI strategy, and reinforces Newcastle’s core values. By increasing awareness and understanding of diverse perspectives, the university aims to build a respectful, collaborative environment where everyone can thrive.

"Empowering colleagues and students and being proactive with EDI prepares us for future challenges, allowing us to adapt to changing societal norms.", so Vi Parker, EDI Training Lead.

To ensure the training was engaging, relevant, and aligned with Newcastle’s policies and culture, the university sought a bespoke EDI programme. Ciphr eLearning, powered by Marshalls, proved to be the ideal partner due to our strong track record and long-standing relationship with Newcastle. The bespoke programme enables colleagues to confidently engage with EDI principles in a way that resonates with Newcastle’s unique environment.

Setting a benchmark for other institutions

Newcastle University hopes other institutions will adopt the programme, as it provides a comprehensive, engaging approach to EDI training. The collaboration with Ciphr eLearning has resulted in a dynamic, interactive, and fully accessible course. Each module features diverse voices, relatable scenarios, and multiple modes of engagement. This programme illustrates best practices in EDI training, and equips colleagues with the knowledge and confidence to foster an inclusive environment.

“We do hope that other universities will use the same programme as it is an excellent all-round programme, highlighting and speaking to crucial aspects of equality, diversity and inclusion.  The content of the programme is universal.”, said Vi Parker. EDI Training Lead
