Essen (GER), January 2008 - The Water-Online-Network (WON) has been launched to increase the knowledge about sustainable water management and to facilitate the implementation of the Water Framework Directive (WFD), especially in the development and dissemination of valuable eLearning solutions. It is part of the Knowledge Bridge Project funded by the EC.
"WON is connecting all stakeholders from the water sector and is a unique community for sustainable water management", emphasizes Christian M. Stracke (University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany), the initiator of WON.
The transfer of knowledge about sustainable water management and especially about the WFD, the exchange of experiences between the experts, and the promotion of eLearning for these tasks are the three main objectives of WON. The WON community brings together all the stakeholders in European water management. The exceptional water expert network will support the adoption of WFD throughout all of Europe as well as the establishment of sustainable water management and specific vocational training by means of eLearning.
