Barcelona (ES), October 2008 - The European Conference on Games-Based Learning (ECCBL 2008) invites researchers, academics, and professionals from games and education to come together to listen, discuss, and present their research, points of views, and knowledge on 16-17 October 2008 in Barcelona.

This is the second year of the conference, and it will be hosted by The Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC - Open University of Catalonia) in Barcelona and held in the Hotel Silken Diagonal Barcelona. The UOC is an online, on-the-Web university that is a pioneer for both its innovative pedagogical model and for the quality of its learning processes.

The UOC's educational model uses information and communications technologies intensively, based on a virtual environment that stresses communication and relationships between individuals.

The facilities of the Telecommunications, Computer Science, Education, and Information and Communication studies are located in the 22nd district of the city, which over recent years has become a knowledge and business cluster at the new city's core.

The conference addresses elements of both theory and practice of all aspects of games-based learning and offers an opportunity for academics, practitioners, and consultants involved in the field to exchange ideas. The programme for the event includes an extensive range of peer-reviewed papers, including keynote presentations from leaders in the field.
