Wanted: Young Managers to Shape the Future
Vienna (A), August 2010 - The European Peter Drucker Society has announced an essay competition for young executives, entrepreneurs, and students. Based on the topic of "Continuity and Change - Balancing Innovation and Time-Tested Practices", the "Peter Drucker Challenge" invites young people up to the age of 35 to express their ideas and thoughts with regard to shaping the future.
Forty authors of these essays will be invited to attend he second Global Peter F. Drucker Management Forum, bringing together academics, management practitioners, and representatives from nonprofit organisations.
The aim of the Peter Drucker Society is to familiarize the young generation with the central ideas of the Vienna-born management pioneer Peter F. Drucker (1909-2005). Until an advanced age, Drucker appreciated the exchange and interaction with his young students. By launching the competition, the society is continuing this tradition.
As an attraction for young people, the Drucker Society has launched a quiz on Facebook, where participants can get an indication of their suitability as managers in the 21st century. In ten questions, this quiz incorporates some of Peter Drucker's basic management concepts. "This is intended to be a game-like appetizer for future managers", commented Richard Straub, President of the European Drucker Society. "It is not meant as a full-fledged ability test, but it should raise interest and motivate young people to think about the future challenges of management in all parts of our society."
