Learn Appeal Continues to Expand
London (UK), September 2019 - Learn Appeal, an eLearning charity, has announced the appointment of learning technology expert Genny Dixon to its Board of Trustees. With a wealth of experience that includes roles at Towards Maturity and eskills, Genny is set to support the continued growth of Learn Appeal around the world.
Following a recent trip to a schools project in Malawi, Genny saw the state of education in many disadvantaged and disconnected communities first hand.
The rural Msalabani School at Zomba in southeastern Malawi has over 2100 children. Faced with the lack of even basic facilities, no electricity and large class sizes, learning becomes a huge challenge.
By bringing access to education in rural areas via its innovative Learn Appeal Capsule, the charity is supporting skills development around the world, with a particular focus on the UK and Africa. There are now over 70 specially commissioned contextually relevant courses; created by volunteers from all over the world, many more are in the pipeline. Its unique technology means that people can access digital learning content with no need for the internet, so learners do not have to pay any data charges to access the learning.
Genny explained, "The power the Capsule can provide in disconnected communities is unsurpassed. Having witnessed the deprivation in schools in Malawi earlier this year and the impact it is having on their young people, I knew I wanted to do more and that I needed to speak to Learn Appeal as soon as I got home." She continued, "It is a great honour to be appointed to the Board of Trustees. I am excited to get stuck in and support this fantastic charity as it grows its impact worldwide."
Jonathan Satchell, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Learn Appeal, said, "We are currently a small charity with volunteer-led resources, but we have great potential to help disconnected communities all over the world and to achieve this we need to grow. Welcoming Genny Dixon as a Trustee feels like such a natural choice given her decades-long service to eLearning and L&D. Having seen for herself just how poor the educational experience can be for many people in Africa, Genny has first-hand insights and incredible motivation to help us play a small part in changing that situation."
