TfL Moves Learning to Kallidus LMS

Cirencester (UK), December 2009 - Transport for London (TfL) has chosen e2train's Kallidus LMS to replace an existing system and extend the reach of their eLearning programmes. The system is currently used by 7,000 TfL employees, but is ultimately scheduled to roll out across the whole of the TfL network.

TfL, created in 2000, is the integrated body responsible for London's transport system. TfL's training department is responsible for delivering learning programmes to around 27,000 managers, administrators, and operational staff.

TfL eLearning Coordinator Andrew Eddy explains; "We've been running eLearning programmes for around four years. So when we came to procure a new system, we were fairly confident about our requirements. We run a blended learning solution, so the system had to have good classroom-management functionality, as well as the capability to run generic and internally created eLearning to a diverse range of groups of users."

As part of the contract, e2train also supplies a catalogue of around 120 courses from SkillSoft. These will run alongside more than fifty custom TfL courses. One of the department's key challenges is to help staff recognise that eLearning is a training intervention as valuable as a classroom session. e2train believes the new gadget-led user interface of Kallidus 8 provides the kind of dynamic, user-centric environment that will drive acceptance and increase the perceived value of the eLearning programme.

TfL are also assessing other opportunities to enhance their learning solutions. Andrew Eddy concludes, "We're already looking at linking our learning plans with employee performance and personal review data. But our next goal will be to roll out the system to another 6,000 additional users, so we've got our hands full in the short term!"

e2train Director Martin Belton comments, "Winning the opportunity to work with TfL is particularly rewarding because their experience with existing systems has given them a clear insight of the kind of solution they need to take them to the next level. But everybody also knows that providing a transport infrastructure in London is a seriously challenging task. So it's rewarding to know Kallidus LMS has been chosen to play what is a key role in helping to make London a better place for us to travel around in."
