Building for 55+

Best Examples From Over Twenty Countries on DVD

Berverly Hills, CA (USA), January 2009 - A new series of educational DVDs on new trends in nursing homes and retirement villages is now available for nursing home and retirement village executives, developers, builders, designers, town planners, government officials, and anyone with an interest in providing housing to the over- 55 market.

The DVDs are available on various topics, offering international insights or specific award-winning solutions from one country. They are created to help architects, developers, elderly citizens, and aged-care operators to visualize and conceptualize the trends influencing new nursing homes. The filming includes exterior and interior shots of the completed nursing homes.

Special topics include dementia and memory support. One set of four DVDs deals exclusively with dementia in Europe, the USA, and Australia. The footage includes the world's first purpose-built central business district and five-storey dementia-specific apartment building in Amsterdam (the Netherlands) and the Dutch "Apartments for Life" operated under the auspices of Dr. Hans Becker, in which dementia is dealt with "within the high-rise apartment community". Other examples deal with dementia facilities that form parts of newly developed nursing homes.

Other examples include retirement communities and villages as well as active-adult communities and rental apartments. They focus on various models of independent- living and assisted-living apartments in different scales and locations.
