Celebrating the Father of Modern Management
Vienna (AT), September 2009 - Knowledge work and knowledge-worker productivity, as well as self-development and lifelong learning, were central themes in the work of Peter F. Drucker, the "father of modern management". His centenary will be celebrated at the 1st Global Peter Drucker Forum Vienna 2009 on 19 - 20 November.
World-leading management thinkers and practitioners such as Yves Doz, Charles Handy, Philip Kotler, and Peter Lorange will converge at this landmark conference. They are united by the conviction that Peter Drucker, who passed away four years ago, has provided the society with a legacy that can help us master the challenges ahead.
Given Drucker's importance of for modern management, the general conference is sure to attract a worldwide audience. The target is to broaden the awareness of Drucker's Viennese and European roots. The event will create a common platform for a dialogue among managers, business school and university professors, economists, consultants, and other interested parties to discuss the future of management in the light of Peter Drucker's work.
In the spirit of Peter Drucker, the emphasis of the Conference will be placed on the total societal and cultural context in which management should be seen. It will integrate elements such as the intellectual currents of fin de siècle Vienna, the humanistic thread in Drucker's thinking, the holistic view on management, and the importance of Drucker's work for future generations.
The visionary elements of Peter Drucker's thinking will get particular focus at the Conference - his thinking on innovation and entrepreneurship and his ground-breaking work on the importance of knowledge work and the knowledge worker for the 21st century.
The Conference will convene in the historic Building of the Federation of Austrian Industries in the centre of Vienna.
