Join Open Ed 2010 in Barcelona

Barcelona (ES), October 2010 - From 2-4 November, 2010, the seventh annual Open Education Conference moves to Barcelona for its first convening outside of North America! The 2010 conference venue is CosmoCaixa, designated Europe's best science museum in 2006.

The Open Education Conference has been described as "the annual reunion of the open education family." Each year the Conference serves as the world's premiere venue for research related to open education, while simultaneously creating the most friendly and energetic atmosphere you'll find at any academic conference.

The general objective of the Conference is to give a space for discussion, research, practice sharing, and community building around the Open Education and Open Educational Resources (OER) movement, concentrating primarily, but not exclusively, on issues dealing with OER's coming-of-age. The OpenEd conference is increasingly recognized as the international forum for those who wish to present and discuss their innovations and/or research projects and for people who wish to learn about the institutional decisions needed to make open education a reality.

On this occasion, we propose to discuss and give a boost to OER initiatives that are emerging and consolidating around the world. For this reason, and under the theme "OER: Impact and Sustainability", we would like to learn about and discuss OER and other open-education projects; how they are designed, implemented, and sustained; what their business models are; and what the different communities of learners need in order to allow OER projects to become a transforming engine for education, improving learning outcomes, and facilitating access to education to more and more people.

The Mozilla Foundation's Drumbeat Festival 2010: Learning, Freedom and the Web is also happening in Barcelona during the week of Open Ed, and if you're attending Open Ed, for an extra fifty euros, you can register for the Drumbeat Festival.
