Roosbeek (BE), May 2008 - The MEDEA Award recognising excellence in the use of media in education was launched during Online Educa Berlin 2007. This unique new European competition aims to encourage, recognise and promote innovation and good practice in the use of media in education. Professionals and amateurs of all levels in education are invited to participate. The closing date for submissions is 30 September 2008.

The MEDEA Secretariat today announced that five finalists will be invited to the Award Ceremony that will take place on 3 December in Berlin and will have the chance to win the first MEDEA Award. Prizes for 2008 will include the award itself and hardware to the value of 6,000 Euro.

The MEDEA Award Ceremony will take place alongside Online Educa Berlin 2008, the world's largest international conference on technology supported learning and training. A special session featuring the 5 MEDEA Award Finalists will be included on the conference agenda.

The organising committee is delighted to make this announcement and look forward to a very high level of participation. Interest in the Award is already high in keeping with the increased level of interest and expertise in the use of media in education.

A spokesperson for the committee highlighted the importance of this Award in the context of our media-rich environment stating "Only when video and audio are routine components of education and online learning will we have an educational environment that reflects the media-rich world in which our learners now live."
