Winners of the Learning Awards 2019 Announced
London (UK), February 2019 - The learning and development community’s top organisations and outstanding individuals gathered together in London to celebrate the 23rd annual Learning Awards. Devised and hosted exclusively by the Learning & Performance Institute, the Learning Awards is widely regarded as the L&D sector’s premier awards ceremony.
Popular British television and radio presenter Claudia Winkleman hosted the event at the 5-star Dorchester Hotel on London’s Park Lane. The ceremony was filled with international figureheads from the global learning community, who joined the awards finalists to celebrate outstanding success across fifteen award categories.
Once again, the standard of entries for the Learning Awards was phenomenally high, with hundreds of submissions received from individuals and organisations in over 51 countries. The Learning and Performance Institute assembled a panel of fourteen industry leaders to form the independent judging panel, who combed through hundreds of submissions to select the very best. The judges were impressed with the passion, the creativity, the effective learning design, and the measurable business impact that every one of the finalists demonstrated.
The standout categories included Learning Provider of the Year, which was won by Sponge, whilst the Learning Team of the Year, dominated by a host of well-known names, including Mitchells & Butler, Openreach, and Yorkshire Building Society, went to LVGIG. The hotly contested Learning Technologies Award was won by UK Coaching, with Filtered close behind, earning a commendable Silver award.
The coveted Learning Leader of the Year was won by Loiza Tallon of XMA, whilst the Learning Professional of the Year 2019 was Vodafone's Claire Barron.
This year, the ceremony presented its Colin Corder Award for Outsanding Services to Learning to Josh Bersin, a true visionary in the learning and development world. Josh is the globally known industry analyst and founder of Bersin by Deloitte, leading provider of research-based membership programs in human resources (HR), talent, and learning. Josh founded Bersin & Associates in 2001 to provide research and advisory services focused on corporate learning. He is a frequent speaker at industry events and a popular blogger. Prior to founding Bersin & Associates, Josh spent 25 years in product development, product management, marketing, and sales of eLearning and other enterprise technologies. Josh takes his rightful place among other learning luminaries such as Elliott Masie, Jane Hart, Charles Jennings, and Bob Mosher.
Opening the awards ceremony, LPI CEO Edmund Monk gave an opening address about how performance can be seen as a synergy of technology with human capital and the importance of upskilling for new and emerging roles.
The evening commenced with the LPI Charity Auction in aid of Dreamflight, a UK charity that takes seriously ill or disabled children to Disneyland Florida each year. The LPI has raised over £400,000 for children’s charities since the Auction was launched in 1999.
