The Media & Learning Conference on 17-18 June

Media & Learning Conference
Leuven (BE), May 2026 - The conference agenda for this year’s Media & Learning Conference being held on 17-18 June under the banner theme "Co-creating the future of learning" is almost complete and is packed with workshops, networking opportunities and inspiring talks. Organised jointly by MLA and KU Leuven.

The conference this year features the following keynote speakers:

  • Sharon Klinkenberg, University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands
  • Rob Morgan from King’s College London & Playlines in the UK
  • Agne Limante from the European Commission
  • Laure Michelon from UCLA in the US
  • Jeff Van de Poël from the University of Lausanne (UNIL) in Switzerland

This year’s agenda also includes a special online ‘in conversation’ session with Stephen Downes, renowned digital learning designer and commentator to discuss his ideas on where we are going with AI in higher education.

  • The Ten-Minute Experiment: Using Microlearning to Reduce Cognitive Load led by Alice Pistono from JoVE in Italy,
  • Rapid Photorealism: Getting to Grips with 3D Gaussian Splatting led by Nathan Saucier from Leiden University in the Netherlands
  • Designing AI-Mediated Learning Experiences with COMPASS led by Olysha Magruder & James Diamond from Johns Hopkins University in the US.
  • AI and Problem-Based Learning: Shaping Student Competencies for Uncertain Futures led by Roland Böttcher, Bochum University of Applied Science, Germany
  • Deconstructing Representation in Text-to-Video Generative-AI led by Shant Bayramian, Inholland University of Applied Sciences, The Netherlands
  • Learning languages with a combined approach of storytelling, visual learning, and AI driven Socratic dialogue led by Ruth Maloszek, University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany
