Creating Connections in Online and Distance Learning

London (UK), October 2026 - Hosted by the Centre for Online and Distance Education at the University of London, this annual international conference brings together academics, technologists, and learning designers to explore research and practice in distance, digital, and transnational education.

Conference dates: Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th March 2027

Location: Senate House, University of London and Online

Abstract submissions: 23rd September to 9th December 2026

Conference registration will open in January 2027 

The hybrid conference provides the opportunity to engage with research and practice in online, digitally delivered, distance and transnational education by connecting you with academics, educators, technologists and learning designers. RIDE2027 is the opportunity to explore and critique innovative practice and research. In 2027 the focus will be on creating connections in online and distance learning, to build human-centred, sustainable and vibrant futures for technology-facilitated education.

The conference topics are: 

Community, Belonging, and Partnership 
Building belonging, inclusion, engagement, and a positive student experience. Strengthening relationships between students, peers, academic staff, support services and the workplace.

Designing Connected Online Learning
Pedagogical, assessment and curriculum design choices that foster interaction and engagement in online and distance learning.

Technology, Innovation, and the Future
Exploring how digital tools, emerging technologies, and AI can enhance connection, engagement, and learning communities.
