US Jobs Grow as Work Changes Within Existing Roles
Revelio’s latest AI Labor Market Tracker attributes 90% of year-on-year changes in work activities to shifts within occupations, up from 89% in the previous tracker. The remaining share comes from changes in the mix of occupations across the workforce.
The measure tracks changes in the activity mix described in job postings. It captures how requirements within a role are evolving, rather than measuring the proportion of jobs changed or establishing that AI caused every shift.
Revelio Public Labor Statistics estimates that the US economy added 56,900 jobs in September 2026, with gains led by public administration and health care and social assistance. Information and transportation recorded employment declines.
Active job postings fell 1.8% from August to September. Eleven of the 16 sectors tracked recorded declines, with leisure and hospitality postings down 14.6%. Public administration postings rose 4.0% and transportation and warehousing rose 1.3%.
Lisa Simon, chief economist at Revelio Labs, said: "The labor market continues to add jobs, but both hiring and attrition are still slowing."
