European Networking and Learning for the Future
Heverlee (BE), February 2008 - EuroPACE is a European nonprofit association of universities and their partners in education and training. Its main objective is to foster networked eLearning for virtual mobility, internationalisation of higher education, knowledge creation and sharing, and for lifelong learning. The book "European Networking and Learning for the Future", edited by Annemie Bonen and Wim Van Petegem, collects articles from various authors involved in the development of the EuroPACE network.
The work gives an overview of the history of EuroPACE since its inception in 1987 as an international network and of the changes that have taken place in the field of ICT-based education and training over the last twenty years. It describes how, through a variety of activities, EuroPACE has worked toward the organisation of a virtual university for Europe.
Over thirty selected authors present their views and insights into the history or the future of fostering collaboration in eLearning, technology-enhanced learning, virtual mobility, society and citizenship, lifelong learning, and competence development. Among the contributors are Claudio Dondi, President of Scienter, Italy and Markku Markkula, Director of the Lifelong Learning Institut Dipoli TKK, Finland.
The book not only reviews the past of EuroPACE; it also looks ahead and focuses on future developments. In its final chapter the book presents a discussion paper about the creation of a permanent European stakeholders group for learning-systems innovation.
