Working on a global scale by joining forces with five universities from South Africa and five from Europe, the iKudu project, spanning almost five years, has successfully developed tailored curriculum practices to fit the cultural, social, and educational environment not only for South Africa but with benefits for all the ten participating universities.

Co-ordinated by the University of the Free State (UFS), the project has exceeded its initial goals, delivering a new way of learning that de-centres hegemonic Western attitudes and fosters awareness and respect for diverse ways of knowing, being, relating, and expressing.

As one of the few externally funded capacity-building projects co-funded by the European Union within the framework of the Erasmus + Programme, recognised in the global higher education discourse, the initiative brings new voices to the table with respect for diversity and plurality and takes interdisciplinarity to new levels.

Professor Katherine Wimpenny, leading the initiative from the Research Centre for Global Learning at Coventry University, said, "Our goal is to prepare students not just for their professions but for their roles as informed, responsible global citizens.

"By bringing diverse perspectives into the classroom, we are breaking down barriers and fostering greater understanding and co-operation among students from different parts of the world."

Professor Lynette Jacobs, Project Lead at UFS, added, "Coventry University provided exceptional leadership during the project, and we are delighted to continue working with GLEA and other units to further build on what we have achieved."

The work is hoped to make true change in reshaping how programmes of study are delivered globally, promoting a more inclusive and interconnected academic community, enhancing cross-cultural exchanges.

Building on the efforts and success of the iKudu project is the creation of the iKudu network, a joint venture involving the ten consortium members plus one new collaborator in creation and expansion of a global academic community.

Chaired by the Vice Chancellor of UFS, a recent network session hosted a meeting of Vice-Chancellors or their representatives from across the ten university consortium members.

It is intended that the network continue to provide opportunities for professional development, strive to promote equal partnerships, and work to ensure open access to the knowledge produced. As the iKudu initiative progresses, Coventry University remains dedicated to fostering international collaboration and innovation in education.

This ongoing support will aim to benefit educational communities worldwide and seek to solidify Coventry University's role as a leader in global higher education.
