Digital Training for Teachers in Puerto Rico
Baltimore, MD (USA), September 2020 - Forward Learning, an educational services company based in Puerto Rico, is working with eThink Education to launch a new professional development platform to train educators across Puerto Rico in digital teaching and learning. Forward Learning has been brought on by the Puerto Rico Department of Education to assist in a digital transformation initiative to make Puerto Rico's education system more adaptable to current and future disruptions to traditional learning.
Forward Learning chose to partner with eThink Education, Certified Premium Moodle Partner and 2019 Moodle North America Partner of the Year, to build a platform to train educators across Puerto Rico in online learning techniques and protocols using Moodle, the world's most widely used learning platform. The initiative will provide training and support to educators, while enabling the school system in Puerto Rico to adapt to future natural disasters or pandemics by moving their teaching online, without compromising education quality.
The platform, built, hosted, and supported by eThink, will feature unique professional development learning plans designed by Forward Learning that will support a network of 28,000 teachers, directors, and support staff, ranging from Superintendents to Counselors. Currently, the site designed by eThink is seeing upwards of 20,000 concurrent users, as teachers and staff prepare for the upcoming school year.
Additionally, Forward Learning is working alongside a leading hardware supplier, Computerlink, to put digital devices in the hands of teachers and students across Puerto Rico to make online learning a possibility for all students.
"This is a game changing project," said Alexis Torres, President at Forward Learning. "This is an important project that will ensure students in Puerto Rico can continue to receive an effective education despite the major disruptions we have seen recently in the form of hurricanes, earthquakes, and the current global pandemic. Partnering with eThink's team has helped us build this platform to fit our needs and has allowed us to fast track this initiative beyond what we could have accomplished on our own."
"As a company that understands the true impact that online learning can have in making education more accessible for learners, we are excited to see the work that Forward Learning and the Puerto Rico Department of Education are doing to train educators on the many ways that digital learning can be utilized to support their students," said Brian Carlson, CEO & Co-Founder of eThink Education. "We are proud to support this initiative by providing a platform that can provide teachers with the resources they need to offer their students continuous, high-quality education, even in the face of potential disruptions."
