The Center for Leadership Studies Releases Stay Interviews

Cary, NC (USA), February 2024 - The Center for Leadership Studies (CLS), the global home of the Situational Leadership® Model, has announced the release of Stay Interviews, a course that enables leaders to build trust and create a safe environment where employees are successful, engaged, and want to stay.

Employee retention is a top concern for most organizations, as research reveals that 40% of employees are considering quitting their current job in the next three to six months. Furthermore, it takes approximately 44 days and two times an employee's annual salary to replace a single employee. As companies look for ways to get ahead of attrition and retain employees, stay interviews have emerged as a valuable strategy, but only 27% of HR decision makers in the U.S. are using them.

A Gallup survey revealed that 52% of voluntarily exiting employees said their manager or organization could have done something to prevent them from leaving. Rather than waiting until the exit interview, Stay Interviews equips managers to get ahead of attrition by engaging in transparent conversations around employee motivation, improvement, and change where they can assess engagement and wellbeing. These conversations are a powerful way to support succession planning and increase retention while building trust with employees.

Suzie Bishop, VP of Product Development at The Center for Leadership Studies said, "The Stay Interviews course is yet another tool within our Performance Curriculum to equip leaders with the strategies and communication skills to execute this critical retention approach. Stay interviews are key to organizational success, but more importantly in assessing engagement and developing trust between manager and employee."

Available in in-person instructor-led training (ILT) and virtual instructor-led training (vILT), Stay Interviews is a two-hour course that prepares leaders to make employees feel seen and heard, while equipping them to perform at their best.

"Throughout my career, I've learned so much from stay interviews about my team members' motivations and challenges. By taking the time to invest in them, I was able to determine stretch assignments, unidentified goals, challenges in the organization, and risks, and I built trust along the way. This Stay Interviews course gives leaders the tools they need to confidently walk into these types of conversations and truly impact engagement and retention in a positive way," said Sharon Andrews, VP of Strategic Solutions at The Center for Leadership Studies.

Through collaborative learning, activities, and in-depth discussions, participants learn to overcome common stay interview challenges and create a personalized Stay Interview Planner. Participants will be empowered to engage in dialogue that reveals and addresses key motivators without judgment and build responsibilities around them, creating a more trusting and transparent work environment in which employees feel valued and choose to stay.
