In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), The Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Khalid Bin Mohammed Al-Anqari, pointed out that the University is a governmental educational institution that provides electronic education based on information and communication technologies and the techniques of eLearning and distance learning, noting that it includes a Faculty of Administrative and Financial Sciences, a Faculty of Computing and Informatics, and a Faculty of Health Sciences.

Dr. Al-Anqari expressed his thanks and appreciation to the King for supporting educational institutions in the service of the homeland and its citizens.

According to the English-language Saudi newspaper Arab News, the University will provide intensive courses to help prepare Saudi students for roles in business and industry as well as research and development. It will offer a range of courses in the field of electronics and its applications, providing bachelor's and master's degrees, while also offering other non-electronics related courses.

"We are now so dependent on electronic systems that without them, our lives would be unimaginable-, said Ministry of Higher Education spokesman. "The Kingdom is one of the few countries in the world where reliance on electronic applications and appliances is increasing fast-, he added, pointing out that the Saudi consumer electronic devices market alone, including computer devices, mobile handsets and video, audio and gaming products, is projected to grow to $5.5 billion in 2015.

This market projection does not include the use of electronic products and services in aeronautics, space technology, and other industries.
