Going Global 2011: Registration Now Open
Hong Kong (CN), November 2010 - Registration for the fifth Going Global conference is now open, and delegates who register before 10 December 2010 are eligible for an early-bird discount. Full details are available online, along with information about booking travel and accommodation. Last year's conference sold out, so booking early is advised.
Currently, the programme, with over 250 speakers from seventy countries, is being developed and is set to take part in four plenary sessions, thirty parallel sessions, and sixty poster presentations. More information will be added to the website soon, and a draft programme will be made available in early December 2010.
The conference theme is: World education: the new powerhouse?
As city and nation states battle to emerge from world recession, keen to define their position in a new-order global economy, education is being propelled relentlessly to centre stage. Higher and tertiary education are under huge pressure from world governments to drive economic growth and play a key role in securing their global position. As global markets develop rapidly, governments perceive that innovation and economic growth will be generated from growing global networks of researchers, students, and institutions.
But what challenge does this present to traditional roles of universities and colleges? How will this change the purpose and practice of higher and tertiary education? Who are the new players and partners - governments, business, academics, and students? What is the relationship among them, and how is this shifting expectations, roles, responsibilities, and contributions?
Going Global 2011 will explore these challenges through four key themes:
- Investing for return: returning the investment
- Regional education hubs: global aspirations
- New purposes: new partnerships?
- Universities and colleges: challenge and change
The Conference organisers are working with Berlin's ICWE on the exhibition for this year's event, which will be located in the heart of the Conference space - alongside the catering and refreshment areas, the internet café, and the poster wall - to maximise footfall and interaction with delegates.
In addition, the annual Asia Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) conference is taking place this year, beginning on 09 March 2011 in Taiwan. It is now possible to attend both events:
09 and 10 March - APAIE 2011 conference and exhibition
11 and 12 March - GG 2011 conference and exhibition
Information about travelling between Taiwan and Hong Kong is available, including competitive rates that have been secured with Cathay Pacific. Flights are frequent and take around ninety minutes.
