Roundtable on Open Scientific Publication
Barcelona (E), June 2015 - The UOC is to host the European Distance Education Network (EDEN) Annual Conference, on the theme of "Expanding Learning Scenarios", in Barcelona in June 2015. In agreement with the conference's organizers, RUSC has put together a pre-conference activity on open scientific publication in the field of eLearning.
The aim is to bring together editors of leading journals in education and technology (eLearning and universities) to debate the main topics affecting science communication and its impact, and to explore the corresponding strategies for action.
There is currently an important debate on scientific output and dissemination. New open-access journals have appeared that place greater importance on the impact on the web than on the traditional system of citations in indexes such as Web of Science or Scopus.
New systems and dynamics
New systems for viewing research and new dynamics for assessing the impact of scientific activity have arisen. New applications for managing open-access journals have been developed that are increasingly flexible and visually appealing. At the same time, there is a clear move towards finding a sustainable business model for open-access scientific publication.
The education sector, and scientific communication of eLearning in particular, cannot ignore these debates. With this in mind, we have organized this event in Barcelona on 09 June with the following aims:
- to create a network or interest group of editors of open-access journals in the field of university eLearning
- to foster debate and opinions on the current trends in science communication on eLearning
- to explore formulas for collaboration among the scientific journals taking part.
