World Information Technology Forum

New Delhi (IN) December 2011 - The next World Information Technology Forum (WITFOR) on Sustainable Human Development, will be hosted by the Indian Government in New Delhi, 16 - 18 April 2012. It will focus on the developmental potential and experience of ICT in agriculture, education, human resources, health, and e-governance.




It will also accommodate discussion on underlying social, ethical, and legal issues regarding ICT and development, on infrastructural questions, economic opportunities, and environmental issues.

The World Information Technology Forum (WITFOR) was initiated by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) and has been organized by IFIP every other year since 2003 in cooperation with the government of the host country and many other stakeholders. The last WITFOR in Hanoi, Vietnam, attracted 1500 delegates.

The Education Commission of WITFOR 2012 is inviting contributions on the following themes:

  • Education for All (EFA)
  • Open & Distance Learning (ODL)
  • Open Educational Resources (OER)
  • ICT-enhanced Education in Vietnam and South-East Asia

Panellists in each of the four Education Commission's thematic sessions will be given fifteen minutes to present their papers before being engaged in an interactive open discussion with the audience.

Extended abstracts (250 - 300 words) need to be received by 20 December 2012.

Objectives of the Education Commission 2012

  • to establish the centrality of education as a key driver of development
  • to look at education as a continuum, from K12 to tertiary
  • to examine how ICTs can promote access, equity, and quality while cutting costs in education
  • to highlight state-of-the-art trends and developments in technology-enhanced education.
