Trains, Virtual Worlds, Serious Games, and Kids
Richardson, TX (USA), March 2008 - Red Knight Learning Systems, based in Dallas, Texas, has been selected as a strategic partner in the design and development of a unique new interactive learning project for kids. "Chuggington" is an entertainment property being developed by London-based Ludorum, plc that follows the adventures of three young train engines, their human caretakers, and their fellow train friends.
Chuggington is especially designed for three to six year olds and will be rolled out in television, books, toys, and an engaging interactive virtual world in early 2009.
"Chuggington's Virtual World" is where Red Knight is helping out; the company is working with Ludorum to design both the interactive view-and-play world as well as learning games ("serious games") integrated into the world, all based on the richly animated television series.
The games and interactivity in the online world will offer life lessons and instill core values. Parents will be able to participate in the design of the children's learning and interactive experiences by designating the priority of developmental and learning events as well as the level of community interaction. The project is novel in its blend of high production values, a virtual world that can be experienced alone or with others, and games that offer the best balance of learning and fun.
Red Knight's Dallas-based team is part of a global partnership, working with Ludorum teams in Chicago, New York, and London; toy manufacturer Learning Curve out of Chicago; and animation and virtual world builder Shanghai Motion Magic Digital Entertainment in China.
"We are honored to have been selected by Ludorum to work on this interesting and fun project", said John A. Purdy, president and co-owner of Red Knight. "We're happy to be lending our expertise to the design and development of Chuggington's Virtual World."
Red Knight is focusing on the technical and user experience elements of the 3D virtual world, as well as the learning and game design, the database technical specifications, the web site design and architecture, and an overall project coordination and management plan.
