Pebble Learning's Book Now Free to Download
Telford (UK), May 2013 - Pebble Learning, founders of the online personal learning space PebblePad, have now made their latest book, "Pebblegogy", available for free download. Bridging the gap between technology and learning, Pebblegogy aims to help tutors and learning designers create meaningful activities that will support their curricula.
Reviewer Keith Daniels of the University of Bedfordshire commented in Cilip Update journal, "Reading Pebblegogy has given me ideas for developing my student information-literacy programmes, as well as some useful hints for personal development in the areas of project planning and collaboration with colleagues."
Writing in Multimedia Information & Technology journal, Juanita Foster-Jones of Aberystwyth University, said, "You can pick and mix activities to fulfil your learning objectives. In addition, there is an activity index at the back of the book that enables you to see the overview data for all the activities at a glance."
A companion website provides a wealth of further information such as activities and presentations. The first half of Pebblegogy provides the most detailed explanation yet of what PebblePad is, what it stands for, and why it works the way it does.
PebblePad has now been used for over eight years by over 100 organisations, and the second half of the book presents a rich collection of learning designs resulting from the contributions and collaborations of more than forty practitioners from the UK and Australia. Each of the activities described is accompanied by guidelines usage covering, for example, tutor complexity, student’s ability to use PebblePad, and recommended number of students participating.
The extensive work covers areas such as: first steps with PebblePad; planning personal and professional development; developing academic study skills; promoting group work; experiential learning; collaborative learning; self and peer review; preparing for accreditation and employment; learning for the workplace; and action planning and project managing.
Following a three-year redesign and rebuild, a new version of PebblePad is now available: PebblePad3, comprising personal learning space Pebble+ and the ATLAS assessment system.
The book is available for free download from Pebble Learning; in hard copy from Amazon (under five copies), or direct from Pebble Learning (over five copies).
